HARTFORD, Conn., Feb. 17, 2026 – Building service workers union 32BJ SEIU and Nassau Financial Group are pleased to announce the awarding of a janitorial contract to Performance Janitorial Services, a responsible contractor, for maintenance of the Nassau Financial Group building at One American Row, also known as the Boat Building. Performance Janitorial Services, will recognize 32BJ as the sole representative of the workers at the site, where six cleaners will maintain this important Hartford property.
“This isn’t just a win for our members, but for blue-collar service workers across the region— as it re-establishes area standards in one of the city’s most iconic buildings, home to one of the city’s most important companies,” said Rochelle Palache, Vice President and Connecticut State Director, 32BJ SEIU. “Our workers had their backs when the world shut down during the pandemic, and here we are, almost half a decade later, demonstrating that the fight to win them the recognition they are due is never in vain. For this, we’re grateful for Nassau’s ongoing work with us to secure a responsible contractor that recognizes its employees’ worth, and we look forward to continuing our productive partnership in the future.”
“Nassau is proud to continue our collaboration with SEIU as we work together to create opportunities for higher-paying jobs in the Greater Hartford community. We value our ongoing partnership with the union and are excited to begin this new chapter with the dedicated team at Performance Environmental Services” said Kostas Cheliotis, General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of Nassau.
This decision resolves the union’s campaign begun during the pandemic to reward the Boat Building contract to union workers. Several years ago, Nassau and the union reached an understanding to invite companies with a history of maintaining area labor standards to bid on the janitorial work.
Nassau Financial Group is a Hartford-based financial services company with insurance and asset management businesses operating across the U.S. and internationally. One American Row serves as Nassau’s headquarters and has five corporate tenants.
With 175,000 members in 11 states and Washington DC, including 5,000 members in Connecticut, 32BJ is the largest building service workers union in the country.
