The Phoenix Companies, Inc. Announces Management Promotions in Product and Operations Division

Hartford, Conn., June 8, 2015 – The Phoenix Companies, Inc. (NYSE:PNX) today announced four management promotions in its Product and Operations division: Joleen Speight, Matthew Heaphy, Craig Michaud and Nancy Turner.

“We are pleased to recognize these individuals who have made meaningful contributions to our success and taken on broader responsibilities and mission-critical projects,” said Thomas Buckingham, executive vice president, Product and Operations.

Joleen Speight, vice president, Enterprise Services

Joleen Speight has been promoted to vice president, Enterprise Services. She is responsible for the Enterprise Project Management Office and Product and Regulatory Compliance and reports to Mr. Buckingham.

Ms. Speight joined Phoenix in 1993 in the mutual fund services division and has worked in investments marketing and business development, insurance product delivery and finance program management. Most recently, she was second vice president, Enterprise Services, and prior to that served as strategic program manager, Corporate Finance, and chief of staff, Life and Annuity.  Throughout her career at Phoenix, Ms. Speight has directed a number of high-level strategic initiatives, including marketing programs and product releases, transformation of financial reporting processes, legal and regulatory projects, and execution of capabilities for the middle market.

Ms. Speight is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and holds a Master of Science in Management from The American College.

She serves as vice president and director of girls lacrosse for Somers (Connecticut) Lacrosse Association and is a member of the Connecticut Valley Girls Youth Lacrosse board of directors.

Matthew Heaphy, FSA, MAAA, second vice president and actuary

Matthew Heaphy, FSA, MAAA, has been promoted to second vice president and actuary. He is responsible for the company’s fixed indexed annuity pricing model and is also leading the fixed indexed annuity team for GAAP financial reporting in Actuarial Financial. He reports to Dana Pedersen, vice president and product officer.

Mr. Heaphy joined Phoenix in 2007 as an actuarial student after serving as an actuarial summer intern in 2005 and 2006. He has worked in annuity hedging and product development. Most recently, he led the co-development of a proprietary indexed account offered on Phoenix’s fixed indexed annuities.

Mr. Heaphy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from the University of Connecticut. He earned the FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation in 2011 and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Craig Michaud, FSA, second vice president and actuary

Craig Michaud, FSA, has been promoted to second vice president and actuary. He is responsible for annuity product management and is also leading the fixed indexed annuity team for statutory financial reporting in Actuarial Financial. He reports to Dana Pedersen, vice president and product officer.

Mr. Michaud joined Phoenix in 2005 as an actuarial student and  has worked in valuation and annuity pricing. Most recently, he was a key player in developing the company’s statutory financial plan and continues to be involved in capital planning across the organization.

Previously, Mr. Michaud had worked in the robotics division for Meritage Manufacturing Solutions in both a sales and engineering capacity.

Mr. Michaud holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He earned the FSA designation in 2013 and is a member of the Society of Actuaries.

Nancy Turner, second vice president, Life & Annuity Agent Services and Life New Business

Nancy Turner has been promoted to second vice president, Life & Annuity Agent Services and Life New Business. She is responsible for agent contracting, licensing and commissions and the administration of life new business. She reports to Scott Schuetz, vice president, Growth Delivery and Operations.

Ms. Turner joined Phoenix in 2008 as an assistant vice president overseeing Distribution Administration. Most recently, she added responsibility for the Life New Business organization and made key process improvements to better position the company in the middle market.

Previously, Ms. Turner was a director, Annuity Business Compliance, for The Hartford.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Assumption College and Series 6 and Series 26 licenses.
